The parents of a woman strangled to death, burned and buried say they will not forgive the suspect for what he allegedly did to their daughter.

Vicha Palipol and Patcharee Punthong were allowed a brief face-to-face meeting with Polkrit Wiset, the 29-year-old accused killer of Ploynarin Palipol, in a police van during a crime scene reenactment in Ayutthaya on Thursday.

The pair used the occasion to express their feelings.

“I trusted him when he kept in touch with my daughter, because he was a soldier. Now, I will never forgive him, even though looking at his face I knew that he felt his guilt,” Mr Vicha said.

Mrs Patcharee said Sgt Polkrit begged their forgiveness for what he had done to Ploynarin, but she and her husband did not accept that. “He should get the death penalty because his behaviour is a threat to everybody.” (continues below)

The former army soldier was arrested on Sunday in Nakhon Ratchasima. The investigation had stalled until Ploynarin‘s family petitioned the Damrongtham complaints centre, expressing concern that investigators may be dragging their feet because the suspect‘s father is an army colonel.

Police explained they needed solid evidence before arresting the suspect who, they said, decided to surrender after pressure from investigators.

Sgt Polkrit faces several charges, including premeditated murder, and police allege he has confessed to killing the woman on May 21, 2014, when she was 22 years old.

He was a soldier in the Artillery Division, stationed in Lop Buri‘s Muang district, before being dismissed from the service after being absent without leave for 15 days.

Police took the former army sergeant to eight crime scene locations in Ayutthaya, Lop Buri and Saraburi on Thursday, making him demonstrate to investigators all events culminating in the burying of Ploynarin‘s body. About 100 police were at hand to protect him from any attacks by angry onlookers.

Sgt Polkrit was Ploynarin‘s boyfriend at the time. According to crime reenactments, he waited for her in his sedan at a petrol station in Tha Rua district in Ayutthaya on May 21, 2014. When she left her office after work, he picked her up. She was later strangled to death in the car after the two argued. She had learned that Sgt Polkrit already had a family.

The suspect then went to his home at the army artillery barracks in Lop Buri to get the tyres later used to burn her body, and buried her in Kaeng Khoi district in Saraburi.

Police found the burned remains later in 2014, and DNA tests matched samples from her parents.

Sgt Polkrit remained firm that he had acted alone, but Ploynarin‘s parents doubt that.

The suspect is being detained at the 18th Military Circle in Saraburi, because the crime occurred when he was still in the army.
